Please give a warm welcome to Daphne from Maryland…
Daphne Silver is the Agatha-winning author of the "Rare Books Cozy Mystery" series. The first in the series Crime and Parchment (Level Best Books, 2023) won the Agatha Award for Best First Mystery Novel. The latest book, Poison and Prejudice was just published last year.
Besides cozy mysteries, Daphne has written history books as Lauren R. Silberman including Wild Women of Maryland (History Press, 2015), Wicked Baltimore (History Press, 2011), and The Jewish Community of Baltimore (Arcadia Publishing, 2008).
When not writing, Daphne has worked for over twenty years in non-profits, including museums and symphonies. She has the great fortune of being married to a librarian. They live in Maryland with their family. She also loves drawing and painting. Although she’s not much of a baker, she won’t ever turn down a sweet lokshen kugel.

Favorite Food: Pizza. While I adore wood-fired pizza, I’m not much of a snob. Definitely will shout-out Maryland’s own Ledo Pizza (across the state) and Matthew’s Pizza (in Baltimore).
How does your main character differ from you/is similar to you?
Juniper Blume is everything I wish I was! She is fearless, fashionably vintage, and a walking encyclopedia of usually useless facts. Except when they help her solve crimes. She makes connections that I don’t, and I’m the one writing about her! However, we also share a deep love for our family, friends, and pets. We care a lot about history and understand the power of books. Neither of us are great cooks or cleaners, but thankfully, others don’t hold that against us. Unlike Juniper, I’ve never been a librarian, but I did marry one, so we do share that love of libraries in common.
Is your book set in the same state that you live in? (please describe the setting)
The "Rare Books Cozy Mystery" series is set in Maryland along the Chesapeake Bay in the fictional town of Rose Mallow. While I live closer to Washington, D.C., I have called Maryland home for over 25 years and love this place dearly. There’s a reason they call Maryland “America in Miniature” because we have everything from Appalachian Mountains to the Atlantic coastline. (No deserts though… And fun fact, no natural lakes! But we do have that gorgeous Chesapeake Bay)
Rose Mallow is based upon a few real towns, especially North Beach and Chesapeake Beach. These former resort towns share a public boardwalk with charming shops, parks, beaches, and historic homes. I love the history, sense of community, and the idea of a boardwalk as the town’s main street, bordered by the grandeur of the water.
Introduce us to one of the animals in your story.
Juniper’s trusted sidekick is Clover, a rescue dog. He’s around 20 pounds, all white, and basically a four-legged toddler. As much as he loves Juniper, his absolute bestest-buddy is Violet, the four-year-old daughter of Juniper’s sister. The two of them love to play and get into trouble together.
One Silly Thing About You: Several… I used to belly dance (badly), have an iguana named Shorty, and was a painting major in college.

Poison and Prejudice: A Rare Books Cozy Mystery #3
A Little Bit About the Book:
When a simple storage unit auction turns deadly, librarian Juniper Blume finds herself unpacking more than she bargained for...
Rare books librarian Juniper Blume has settled into life at her sister's Wildflower Inn in the charming Chesapeake Bay town of Rose Mallow, Maryland. But when curiosity draws her to a local storage unit auction, Juniper's winning bid comes with a shocking bonus—a dead body hidden among meticulously organized museum-quality boxes.
As Rosh Hashanah approaches, Juniper must navigate a web of secrets, a town full of suspects, and valuable collectibles—including letters from Jane Austen. Can Juniper solve the mystery before the killer strikes again? Her librarian's curiosity and attention to detail might be her greatest strengths—or put her directly in harm's way.
Dream Vacation (Extra Fun Fact): Italy. I spent a semester there in college and dream of returning.
